Why do we dance? Does it matter whether and how we are seen? How does performing affect us? These are some of the questions four companies of dancers over 50, have been exploring in the making of Home from Home.
We are thrilled to invite older dancers to join us on Thursday 28th September at DanceEast to experience a day in the life of EncoreEast. It is an opportunity to dance, create, mingle with friends and join the conversation about whether the world is ready for older people dancing.

Workshops will be led by amazing dancer and choreographer Alethia Antonia, who made EncoreEast’s contribution to Home from Home. Alethia’s choreographic work has been performed at Sadler’s Wells, DanceEast and Centre Pompidou. Alethia co-created Focus for EncoreEast in 2021 with Edd Arnold for a collaborative project with Russell Maliphant Dance Company.
“I am excited to be working again with EncoreEast. I loved working with them on Focus; watching them made me cry. They were so keen to learn and developed so much as dancers. I am not surprised EncoreEast has taken this generous, innovative and ambitious step to produce Home from Home.” – Alethia Antonia
Alethia has performed internationally, including with Russell Maliphant Dance Company, James Wilton Dance, James Cousins Company and Scottish Dance Theatre. As a Work Place Artist at The Place and a part-time PhD researcher at De Montfort University.
Home from Home is a creative collaboration of 44 dancers over 50, directed by renowned choreographer Luca Silvestrini, devised and produced by EncoreEast. It is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, and co-commissioned by EncoreEast, DanceEast, The Place and Norwich Theatre. The project involves four companies EncoreEast, Cadenza, Damn Fine Dance and The Place Dancers.
