Luca Silvestrini announced as Creative Director of Home from Home, the ambitious new project from EncoreEast.
The pioneering project is a collaboration between DanceEast, Norwich Theatre and The Place, alongside their respective dance companies, EncoreEast, Cadenza, Damn Fine Dance and The Place Dancers, as the largest, most complex project EncoreEast has undertaken to date. Protein’s Artistic Director is thrilled to be entrusted to ensure the artistic excellence and to oversee choreographers Alethia Antonia, Laura Anderson, Molly Wright, Luke Birch and Alleyne Dance, all of whom have been co-commissioned by the project.
Protein’s cherished relationship with EncoreEast began with a Research and Development workshop for The Little Prince, which premiered at DanceEast in 2018. During the pandemic, EncoreEast members took part in The Sun Inside alongside over 150 dancers from across the world, the film went on to win Best Musical/Dance Film at the Los Angeles Film Awards. As part of Protein 21, Luca and the company collaborated with EncoreEast to create the dance film Me, My Body and I, a re-imagining of Dear Body (2008). In 2022, Luca spoke on the discussion panel at HOST, a co-devised a day for older dancers, this is where the idea for ‘Home from Home’ began.
Luca commented “I am incredibly excited by the innovative nature of this project and the impact it’s going to have. It’s refreshing to see several choreographers, companies of older dancers and venues coming together, combining their different voices and experiences and contributing towards a seamless and cohesive piece of dance theatre. It’s great to be orchestrating this with the wonderful and inspiring EncoreEast and thanks to DanceEast, The Place and Norwich Theatres for supporting such a pioneering initiative.”
