About the workshop:
Through improvisation, creative exercises and repertoire we will explore, play and delve into the world of ‘Mothering’; exploring the role of ‘mother’. Tenderness, care, seeing, understanding… what is a mother? How do we mother? How are we mothered? We all have many varying relationships to this concept. Ultimately how do we mother ourselves? Can we use movement to self-mother in order to grow and thrive?
Expect a playful, honest and creative workshop celebrating taking time for ourselves as well as connecting to and moving familiarly with others.
About Chess
Chess trained at Northern School of Contemporary Dance and with Jasmin Vardimon’s apprentice company JV2. In 2014 Chess co-founded multi-award winning, critically acclaimed, comedic dance-theatre company The Hiccup Project. Her first creation ‘May-We-Go-Round?’ sold-out in Brighton Fringe, and won The Pebble Trust Brighton Fringe Award, The South East Dance Award and The Fringe Review Award for Outstanding Theatre.
Driven by human, social themes and real-life experience, Chess is inspired by work that seeks to connect to audiences regardless of their prior experience of contemporary dance or theatre. In addition to extensive national touring, Chess leads workshops with people aged 5-85 with varying levels of experience in schools, colleges, universities and community settings.
“I am fascinated with how we can physicalise emotions and tell stories through movement. I like to draw out real stories and create work to inspire, connect, move and entertain.“
