‘Let’s Create’ is our broad theme and shines through all the submissions we had this year.

Alongside EncoreEast’s own site-specific performance, the theatre programme will feature live performances by Cadenza (Norwich), Three Score Dance Company (Brighton) and Damn Fine Dance (London). Films will be shared on three screens including the Theatre, Screening Room and Gallery.

We had a huge response to our call out with films submitted from across the globe. Three films will be screened from Australia: Ripe Dance, Fine Line Dance, and Eileen Kramer. Their award-winning films are stunning and have the honour of having some of our oldest dancers at 107 and 101 years old.

It has been interesting to see how differently countries and regions embrace ‘Dance & Age’. Some are very new to the idea and are testing what is possible within the genre. Others have been exploring the theme for much longer and have come to understand, as we all know, there are no limits.

Maya Dance from Singapore combine professional young dancers with an older participant to trace the stories of life. On the other side of the world, Amnia Teatro from Chile have just begun their journey, working with former construction and domestic workers to explore what is possible when we are invited to move spontaneously.

Our home-grown talent also showcases the full spectrum of older dancers’ talent, from those who have just discovered dance, to experienced amateurs and former professionals. We are immensely proud of the programme we have been able to curate.

Starting tomorrow and continuing over the next few weeks we are excited to ‘spotlight’ some of our companies’ blogs here on our website. Many of the companies will share their creative process and ideas around ‘Age & Dance’ beginning the conversation that will frame HOST.

So, enjoy, share and ‘Let’s Create’
